

Our first director was Marlene Wilson, a world-renowned author and trainer in volunteer management. In 1983, we incorporated as a nonprofit agency, and in 1991 became known as the Volunteer Connection.
We have an office in Boulder, and help refer volunteers to organizations throughout Boulder County.
In 2006 Volunteer Connection:
- Served 14,687 people and agencies through our programs.
- Placed 400 volunteers who contributed at least 530 hours to the St. Vrain
Community Council's Holiday basket program.
- Placed 400 volunteers who contributed 1600 hours on "I Volunteer"
Day with 31 county-wide projects.
- Interactive web-based database:
- Averaged 11,757 visitors monthly
- 316 agencies are registered with their 420 volunteer opportunities
- 1,216 community volunteers are registered- Distributed monthly
e-newsletter of volunteer opportunities to 498
businesses, service groups, faith communities
and individuals.
- During November and December, distributed holiday volunteer opportunity
lists to 498 businesses, service groups, faith communities and
individuals.
- Published 500 Youth Volunteer Opportunities Guide, that was distributed
to all public and private middle and high schools in Boulder County
and was made available on our website, which remains among our
website's top ten most visited pages on a monthly basis.
- Presented 13 workshops on volunteer management and nonprofit topics attended
by 197 nonprofit/service professionals.
- Published weekly average of 30 volunteer opportunities in three local newspapers
(Colorado Daily, Daily Camera and Daily Times-Call).
- Profiled 95 volunteers and the agencies they serve in three local newspapers
(Colorado Daily, Daily Camera and Daily Times-Call) and on its
website.
- Published monthly “Volunteer Corner” column in Senior Market
Place News.
- Served on Citizen Corps of Boulder County – to assist in times of
disasters, meeting demand for volunteers.
From January to September 2007, Volunteer Connection:
- Served in Holly, CO managing the tornado disaster volunteer
reception site.
- Placed 600 volunteer who contributed 2400 hours on “I Volunteer!”
Day with 40 county-wide projects.
- Named April 2007 “Outstanding Member Agency” by Community Shares.
- Presented 8 workshops on volunteer management and nonprofit topics attended
by 118 nonprofit/service professionals.
- Two of our collaborations won 2007 NOVA Awards: MentorsMatter for Education
and FOCUS, a program of Restoring the Soul: Faith and Community
Partnerships for
Civic Engagement.
