The Boulder Rugby Club
with Share-a-Gift
by Jennifer Rodehaver

Rah Scrumbug!
None of them keep reindeer as pets. There isn't a flowing white beard among them. They are all too athletic to have bellies that shake when they laugh, but the 80 plus members of the Boulder Rugby Club play the role of Santa superbly!

For more than ten years, the club has joined other dedicated volunteers at the annual Share-a-Gift event to insure needy children receive holiday presents. This year is no exception. On December 20, the members and extended families will be available to help parents shop for donated toys. Members away for the holidays often contribute gifts and cash. Each year, the numbers of volunteers increases. There are many tasks involved to make sure the big day goes smoothly.

Possibly the oldest sports club in Boulder County, the Rugby Club is an eclectic co-ed mix of ages, professions, and personal philosophies. Everyone seems to agree, however, on the value of volunteering. New members are told upfront about this annual event, which has become part of this club's culture.

Rich Frankenheimer, club spokesperson states,
" Our club is proud to give something back to such a supportive community. Whether giving or receiving, the Share-A-Gift program opens our eyes to how fortunate we are."

Frankenheimer hopes more groups will seek volunteer opportunities together claiming, "Its been a positive experience for club members and they eagerly look forward to it. "
