Dixie Johnston is an amazing and diligent volunteer. She
spends many hours doing what she feels is important to help her community. She
splits her time at four different volunteer positions. The fortunate recipients
of Johnston's time and energy are RSVP's Carry Out Caravan Program, the RSVP office
and the Companionship program. Johnston also helps coordinate and record the hours
other volunteers spend each month and she creates a log of those hours.
At Companionship, Johnston spends time with the elderly and disabled. Johnston
said, "I love helping the elderly and the disabled people". Johnston
believes everyone in the community should volunteer because she sees a need in
so many organizations. Johnston said the best part about volunteering is "meeting
new people, whether it is at the RSVP office or at Carry Out Caravan, everyone
is really fun." Johnston thinks volunteering is
a great use of her time because she believes any help is always appreciated. Also,
through her volunteer work Johnston has gained new skills using the computer and
becoming competent with programs she would not have had an opportunity to learn
how to use otherwise. Putting in hundreds of volunteer
hours every month, Johnston is always on the go helping others out. "If I
can donate my time, I believe that it is worth more than donating my money. The
organizations do need the help." Johnston said, "Everyone
who has not gotten themselves out there to volunteer should just do it, because
it really is fun." The organizations Johnston volunteers for are lucky to
have such a dedicated volunteer. She helps others for the sheer pleasure gained
by knowing she has contributed to her community to make it a better place. For
