Vic Love with Longmont Humane Society |

| by Nancy Lecocq | ||||||||||||||||
The Longmont Humane Societys (LHS) goal is to find a perfect match for each animal at its shelter. As a volunteer, Vic Love has become an enthusiastic member of a group of people whose mission it is to make LHS a success."Vics dedication and easygoing demeanor have made him a treasure, not only to our dogs but to our staff, as well," said volunteer coordinator Sarah Clusman. Love first became aware of LHS when he and his wife adopted a kitten. Murphy is now 15 years old. Love was impressed with the agency and wondered about volunteer opportunities, but he didnt have any free time. "So when I got some free time I thought this would be pretty nice because it kind of gives a voice to the voiceless," Love said. Last year, he spent 239 hours doing a variety of tasks. Love has cleaned cages, provided transportation for ailing animals to medical facilities and participated in adoption drives and fund-raising events such as the Furry Friends Festival coming up in May. His professional talents as a photographer have been put to use at the LHSs annual holiday events, where people can have their pets pictures taken with Santa. A majority of Loves time, however, is spent working with individual dogs. Twice a week he takes the dogs out for a walk or for some playtime in the yard. "Vic makes sure that every dog gets out. Regardless
of the weather, the size or temperament of the dog, they get a much-needed
walk when Vic comes in," The dogs Love sees are here for a variety of reasons, and each has its own needs. He feels a special concern for the timid ones, who often just need a little more time and attention before they are ready for adoption. "I love getting really shy dogs and seeing them get better," Love said. "My favorite thing is when I come in and one of my favorite dogs has gone home."
