Lori Maul and Vicki Nolting agree that the Longmont Children’s Chorale is a hidden gem. Both women have daughters who sing in the chorale.

“It has helped her (my daughter) have confidence in herself and learn team skills,” Nolting said. “She understands the importance of practice, otherwise it affects the whole group.” “My daughter has learned professionalism and presentation skills,” Maul said.

Maul and Nolting have full-time jobs; however, they still found time to volunteer as co-chairs of the Silent Auction Committee, which holds an annual LCC gala and fundraiser in February. They organized and coordinated a team of parents soliciting donations from local businesses and individuals, and planned the evening’s festivities. “It was like hosting a party for 200 people,” Maul said.

Maul’s computer skills helped track donations, and Nolting was instrumental in setting up a procedure so that payment could be made by credit card. The event raised more than $10,000.

“The board of directors and staff are certain Lori and Vicki contributed to the huge success of the event,” Cathy Balan, business manager for the LCC, said. “We appreciate all their hard work.”

Maul was impressed that Mitch Jelniker of Denver television Channel 7 volunteered his time to emcee the auction. “He was very funny and really got the crowd involved,” she said. “He helped make it a very successful evening.”

Proceeds from the auction are used for director’s salaries, pianists, office expenses, rehearsal space rental, purchasing music, advertising and printing brochures. In addition, some of the funds are used to help families who might have difficulty finding the yearly dues necessary for membership.
