Terri Pecora says her volunteer work with the Longmont Humane Society is very satisfying. “I always wanted my own animals, but my husband has allergies,” she said. “I want to be around animals, so I volunteer at the LHS. I love it.”

Pecora participates in a variety of programs, including dog walking, weekly bingo and special events. She walked in the 10K Canine Classic with a humane society dog wearing a jacket stating that the dog was available for adoption.

“Seeing dogs every week, when they get adopted, it is such a good feeling to see people and their excitement at finding the right dog,” Pecora said. She recalled a three-legged pit bull that waited for adoption for quite a while until it finally found a family. Pecora was happy to see this dog and its owner doing well at the Furry Friends Festival.

During the Christmas season, Pecora helps take pet pictures with Santa at PetCo. She even had to try to get two pet rats to sit still long enough to have their picture taken. “They were trained but were moving all the time,” she said. “They just wouldn’t sit still.” Pecora also remembered an older woman who comes every year to have a photo taken of her 18-year-old cat. “I hope to see them again this year,” she said.

Pecora also participated in the annual Animal Affair and Bark in the Park in Erie.

“Terri is one of our most dedicated volunteers,” said Shelle Brudno, Longmont Humane Society event volunteer coordinator. “We know that if we need her help, she will try to fit it into her busy schedule. We can count on her to put her energy and heart into all she does for LHS and the animals.”
