Lynette Sipe
with RSVP

by Lauren Berens
Lynette Sipe is a remarkably dedicated woman and a determined and committed volunteer. She puts much of her time and energy into her volunteer work because she believes in what she does. She currently holds an impressive number of volunteer positions. Most of her volunteer work is done at RSVP's Lafayette's Carry Out Caravan Program, Meals on Wheels, Elder Share, Lafayette Senior Center, Sister Carmen Community Center and the VFW.

Sipe likes working with the older population. She said, "I like the variety of meeting the other volunteers because they are good people, they have so much to give." Sipe also volunteers at the VA hospital serving coffee and taking wheelchair patients to chapel services. She is fond of the time she spends visiting nursing home patients to play bingo and serve food.

Sipe finds volunteering the most rewarding thing she can do with her time. Sipe said that in all of her volunteer efforts, she has discovered that, "The joy you give to others is the joy that comes back to you."

Sipe said, "What I take pleasure in most about my volunteer work is the good people you meet, they volunteer because they believe in what they do, not because they have to. It's really wonderful." Sipe has made many lifelong friends volunteering through Meals on Wheels. Through her volunteer work she has gained new skills like public speaking that she would not have had an opportunity to develop otherwise.

Putting in over 40 hours every week volunteering, Sipe has a busy but blissful life, "I've really enjoyed life these last few years volunteering; I guess I like to be busy with volunteering because it's my pleasure," said Sipe.

Sipe pours herself into volunteering for her community. "The pleasure of knowing you are providing for somebody else is really gratifying," and she knows that is what it is all about.
