Bea Thompson is a dedicated influence for teens in court cases involving abuse or drug use by their parents. Thompson said, "They know I can't solve all their problems, but I feel blessed that they have enough confidence in me to confide."Voices For Children trains volunteers to be CASA's, (court appointed special advocates) to work with guardian ad litem attorneys helping abused and neglected children in Boulder County. After Thompson recovered from a near-death car accident where she couldn't move her legs for months, she decided that she couldn't sit around and feel sorry for herself about a back injury. She read an article in the Times-Call about a CASA volunteering at Voices For Children. That's when she decided to call. Pam Pullen, Director of Voices For Children: "Bea has mentored many children and is an active member of her church. Bea has 4 grown (biological) children." She has enjoyed helping raise a blended family totaling 9 children. Thompson is a volunteer chaplain for the Longmont Police Department and Longmont United Hospital. Her Therapy Dog, Sabre, usually accompanies her, including visits to the Applewood Living Center. She also substitute preaches for small churches in the absence of their regular minister. Plus, Thompson is a mentor for Kids Hope, USA. Thompson has volunteered 6 months at Voices for Children in Boulder County and was a CASA for 4 years in Pennsylvania before coming to Longmont.
