"I like to help people, and I love to drive," said Vi Andrew, a volunteer for CareConnect (formerly RSVP of Boulder County) since August. Older adults and people with disabilities often have no way to get to their doctor or pharmacy and this is one of many services provided by CareConnect of Boulder County.
Allison Dellwo, the Transportation Coordinator for CareConnect said, "Vi is a fabulous volunteer. She takes more people than anyone else and her passengers frequently comment on how thoughtful and caring she is."
Vi and her husband, Lynn, get their passengers to their medical appointments and back in their 1995 Lincoln Towncar. They do this two or three days a week, sometimes covering 100 miles in a day. Vi drives and Lynn assists walking each client to and from the car. They volunteer cheerfully while ignoring their own personal challenges. Lynn offers his good arm to aid his client. His other one was amputated after a farm accident some years back and Vi must use a cane due to back surgery. Married forty years, they have dedicated their lives to helping others-making hospital visitations, aiding the Longmont homeless, and providing critical transportation via CareConnect services.
Vi said, "people are so grateful. It is very satisfying to us."
