When you hear the words "super volunteer," think of Frank Campbell. As a volunteer with the Colorado Therapeutic Riding Center, he has put in more than 5000 volunteer hours, and won the Volunteer of the Year Award…twice.
The Colorado Therapeutic Riding Center promotes the physical, psychological, and social wellness of disabled persons through therapeutic interaction with horses and volunteers.
Campbell knows horses, and other volunteers and staff members at the CTRC say that his expertise has been highly valuable in lessons and with helping train new volunteers. Volunteering with the CTRC has helped him, too. "[I have] become a lot more compassionate when dealing with people with disabilities," he says.
In addition to regular volunteer work, Campbell has also played a pivotal role in the creation of CTRC's Sensory Trail. His carpentry skills and friendly attitude made the project a success.
When asked how he felt about winning the Volunteer of the Year Award, he paused. "A lot of other volunteers were very deserving," he said. "But in the end, I'm glad it was me."
