Michael Holliday with

"I have always been a worker bee. Give me a mission
and I'll get it done," said Michael Holliday, a new volunteer with the Board
of RSVP of Boulder County.
"Now with RSVP I am learning how to work at
a planning level, how to build sponsorships, not just how to ask for donations."
RSVP
of Boulder County's mission is to provide seniors in Boulder County the opportunity
to contribute to their community in meaningful ways and to promote independence
for homebound seniors and adults with disabilities. Holliday began volunteering
with RSVP in November 2007 as an extension of his "efforts to become more
active in the community."
After retiring from the
United States Army, Holliday began working once again in a position that allowed
him to help others, as a veterans' benefits specialist with Boulder County. "This
drive to help in his professional life spills over into his volunteer activities,"
said Russell Lombardy, RSVP of Boulder County Board Chair.
"I
am busy learning, watching and listening. I am trying to find out how I fit in
and where I can be of best service to the organization," Holliday said. The
staff at RSVP "make you feel welcome…they answer any questions I may
have." "His dedication to volunteerism is as genuine as his ability
to make the world a better place," Lombardy added.
Holliday
also involves his kids in his volunteer activities because he wants them "to
become more active in the community." He and his son have participated in
an RSVP food basket delivery among other volunteer activities.
"It
is my understanding that [Holliday] involves his children in his volunteerism,
not only adding more manpower to his causes of interest, but paving the way for
his kids to grow into adults who are also willing to serve others in the normal
course of their lives," commented Lombardy. "I think it is safe to say
that those who get to know Holliday believe our world would be a better, kinder,
safer place with more individuals like him," said Lombardy.
"I
am honored to have been asked to be a part of this," concluded Holliday.
