Bill Sompayrac
with RSVP of Boulder County
by Jody Sandel

For nearly 25 years Bill Sompayrac has volunteered with RSVP, giving thousands of hours of time to his community. His initial volunteer duties included driving patients to chemotherapy and delivering Christmas Fruit Baskets. Currently Sompayrac delivers groceries for RSVP's Carry-Out Caravan. RSVP promotes security, comfort and independence of seniors and adults with disabilities.

When asked about his volunteer work, Sompayrac noted, "Now I work longer hours for nothing!" But quickly added that he really does get a lot from it, and that many of the people he visits are just happy to see another person. Sompayrac enjoys helping people and staying busy, attributing his good health to volunteering.

Sompayrac will be 94 years old this July but you wouldn't know it! He still drives and owns three vintage vehicles, including a Classic 1966 Ford Thunder Bird. Sompayrac says he has strict orders from the doctor to keep doing exactly what he is doing now! He has three children, seven grand children and seven great grandkids to help him stick to the doctor's orders.
