Richard "Dick" Tjarks has lived in Boulder County for 24 years and has been volunteering with RSVP's Lafayette Carry-Out Caravan program since its inception. Tjarks has also volunteered for RSVP's transportation program, Boulder Valley Schools and the Lafayette Senior Center.
Tjarks delivers weekly grocery orders to RSVP Carry-Out Caravan clients that live in Lafayette. He was recruited by an RSVP staff member and was willing to volunteer as soon as he realized there was a need. Tjarks had extra time and recognized that the community would benefit from the service that Carry-Out Caravan provides, free grocery shopping and delivery.
Tjarks's favorite thing about volunteering is the people and the other volunteers. "All of the volunteers are so nice; they are always willing to go that extra mile," he explained. When asked why he volunteers, Dick said he really enjoys the clients and realizes that someday he too may need services. "I will continue to volunteer for as long as I can," notes Tjarks.
RSVP of Boulder County is proud
to recognize Dick as New Frontier Bank Volunteer of the Month for his willingness
to "go the extra mile."
